My work

Mi trabajo

I work in solitude and quiet, in my office. My profession can be isolated, But the many fields that I am asked to translate take me through a myriad of themes - many different landscapes - which I am always curious about. Indeed, the translator ventures into worlds of knowledge and ideas, turns them to a different language, so that a reader that had been shut out of those worlds before can now walk in safely.
To do my job I must first investigate. No matter how much I already know about a topic, each new project involves a new search of terminology and context. Next, I must summon all the grace of which my pen is capable when transferring the source text into the new language while carefully keeping the integrity of the original. The reader of the translation should receive a text that is faithful to the original, but also clear, natural, and well-written.
The main tool for the translator's work is her own brain. However, new technologies are essential collaborators. I try to keep up-to-date and use the tools at my disposal that help me achieve efficiency, speed, and accuracy in my work.
Last, proofreading the translated text is as important as the initial translation. Controlling that the original text is fully and precisely reflected in the translated version probably requires the greatest effort.
Deadlines are sacred. Those who know me know of my strict punctuality in deliveries.
